Fishermen's Wharf
On the hunt for the best Fish & Chips with Jessica the F&C lover!

Jess was actually the one to first mention it. This popular eatery had earned quite some rave reviews for its authentic British-style fish & chips so we popped by for lunch one weekday- with exceptionally high expectations of course.
Basically a no-frills place with free seating, self-ordering and payment made before the food's arrival.
Ambience was casual and laid-back with wooden tables and all but the the absence of airconditioning was a major letdown.
Since they specialise in fish & chips, all the menu listed was merely the various types of fish they offer. The cheapest was Cream Dory and most expensive North Atlantic Cod Loin- all with a choice of fries or chips (we couldn't tell the difference so we had one of each to compare).

Cream Dory Fillet ($6.50)
Arriving ten minutes later was a sizeably-large fillet, plenty of chips, a wedge lemon and tartar sauce served in a weaved basket.

My first bite was heavens- steaming hot moist fish with a light crisp coating. The batter gave good crunch to the soft fresh fish but it was just a little too bland. Tuck in quickly cause the entire thing starts to sog as it cools.
So now i know... chips are actually sticks of panfried potatoes. It may be the traditional accompaniment for this dish but i still find Jessica's fries more enjoyable than these soggy strands i had. Tartar sauce was homemade and complements the fish.

Set Meal with Coleslaw ($9.50)
Jess opted for a set meal which comes with an additional coleslaw and canned drink. Eeyer, she also had two pieces of fish instead of one- furthermore looking much crispier than mine! lol.
Best in Singapore? Well, it was impressive enough for me but still not worthy of that yet. I'm may not be a total fan of Fish & Chips but i can say this is one of the better versions found. As for Jess, she claims to have tasted better.
