Breko Cafe
latenight munching spot

Brought von here for dinner because it seemed like a pretty suitable place for a cosy chit-chat meal. True enough, the dim interior gave a relaxed atmosphere to chill out in. Furthermore, they had a large alfresco dining area outside as well as magazines for browsing.

I would also consider the menu rather extensive, somewhat similar to Cafe Cartel's. Everything went well until we had much to complain about their mediocre service and food.

Turkey Cheese Avo Sandwich ($7.80)
"smoked turkey, cheese, avocado, pinenuts and cranberry sauce"

I chose wholemeal bread to the other 2 available choices- ciabatta and foccacia. Although served with a side salad, the entire outlook of the sandwich had failed to impress me. It was a bad mistake not to toast the bread.

Fortunately, the filling managed to salvage it to some extent. The turkey ham and cranberry sauce was passable, and the cheese was rich. i didnt like the avocado and not-at-all-crunchy pinenuts though.

Saus & Mash ($13.90)
"thick juicy veal and chicken sausages served with mashed potato and onion gravy sauce"

yvonne had much to comment about this and she absolutely didnt enjoy eating it at all.

Strawberry Crepo ($6.50)
"fresh strawberries, crepes, cream with vanilla ice-cream"

The crepe sheets was another disappointing factor. It came cold and hard, definitely not made fresh but i could easily identify it was home-made due to the slight eggy taste. Nice usage of fresh strawberries instead of the commonly-used strawberry jam.

Banana Stacko ($7.50)
"banana, crispy flakes, peanut butter in chocolate ice-cream with cookie base"

Basically crushed cookies, 2 layers of chocolate ice-cream slabs and peanut butter topped with lots of cornflakes and almond flakes. Absolutely sinful, but she liked it.

Overall: It wasn't exactly a pleasant dining experience due to the poor service and overpriced food. The desserts were alright but its hard to actually go wrong with standard desserts like these. Just one thing to praise about; the food came fast.
