Astons Specialties
affordable fine western cuisine
-119 East Coast Road (Opposite Katong Mall)

If im not wrong, they were once featured in Lifestyle. Here's one place where you can find restaurant-standard western food and service at foodcourt rates. Well-furnished just like a restaurant- except without the aircon. The shop space was quite small and cramped, with limited seatings of only about 10 tables or so. They were rather short-staffed as well, just one serving and the other at the counter. The standard operation: order at the counter, find a seat, eat, pay as you leave.

Foodwise there were a considerable range of choices- chicken, fish, steaks, ribs, spaghettis, burgers, and many sides. Every main course comes with any 2 sides of your choice.

Garlic Bread ($1.80)

This would usually come as a starter, but ours took so long that it came after one main course was already served. Bad time-planning uh. 8 slices of warm and entirely soft bread with loads of garlic spread. It wasn't crispy, but really worth the price!

Crispy Fried Fish ($5.90)

Serene's sides were onion rings and coleslaw.

A pre-marinated(seen by the traces of herbs) piece of fish, breaded and then deep-fried to dark brown. The crust was crispy, not too thick, while the fish maintained some moisture.

I felt that the huge onion rings were well-fried as well, crispy outer and no oil oozing out. Way better than many soggy onion rings elsewhere.

Grilled Pepper Fish ($5.90)

My order of sides were the seasonal grilled veggie and corn-on-the-cob.

I liked their version of grilled fish. Marinated with herbs and pepper, and then skillfully grilled. Well cooked throughout while remaining moist and succulent. The sauce however, was too peppery and had a choking effect.

Hickory BBQ Chicken ($5.50)

Sarah chose to have onion rings and the pasta salad.

The chicken was tasty, but the portion was too small for her. Luckily, she had the pasta salad to fill her up.

Overall: The grilled fish is highly recommended. One more good thing; the prices listed on the menu already includes taxes and there were no service charges.
