Bakerzin
desserts with an attitude
-Raffles City #01-18A
I find that Bakerzin's desserts are all so exquisite and prepared from the heart. Every dessert dish or slice of cake served is like an art piece. It may all look really pretty, but some dont seem to score very well in the taste aspect.
Fraisier ($5.20)
"Almond sponge soaked in strawberry liquor, layered with pistachio butter cream and fresh whole strawberries"

This is my dad's all-time-favourite from here.

Its a whole load of mousse between 2 really thin layers of cake. He likes the light mousse, but i feel that it is too much. They should add in more layers of the almond sponge to make it less cloying.
dad's comments: "This is my favorite @ Bakerzin. Pistachio mousse embedded with fresh strawberries. Not too sweet except the top an bottom sponge layers."
Waffle with Icecream ($10.90)
"a homemade waffle with a scoop of delicious homemade cream cheese icecream and dripping with wild strawberry coulis"

My next target will be to search for the best waffle dessert, and this is my first find- but a pretty bad one. I wasn't feeling adventurous enough for the cream cheese icecream so i had it changed to a classic vanilla instead.

The waffles were overbaked until the entire piece became crispy and hard; no fluff in it at all. The vanilla icecream was richly creamy, and the taste slowly emaciates in your mouth. Sour but good, the wild strawberry coulis added a contrasting taste to the dish.
Iced Mint Tea ($6.20)

Shall also insert an additional entry about my previous visit to Bakerzin. It was on Christmas day 06, where we had their Christmas Set Lunch at the Millenia Walk outlet.
Priced at $32.90++, it consisted of an appetiser (Pumpkin Soup/ Home Cured Salmon Salad), main course (Honey Baked Ham/ Roast Turkey/ Roast Beef) , dessert ( Strawberry Ice Cream/ Christmas Oreo Cheesecake) and a beverage (Christmas Italian Soda).
My appetiser choice was a Home Cured Salmon Salad

Two large but thin slices of home-smoked salmon which tasted terribly saltish.
My main course: Roast Turkey with Cranberry Sauce
(Served with new potatoes, sauteed mushrooms and brussel sprouts)

I didn't really like the turkey because it was bland and slightly undercooked. The sauteed mushrooms and grilled mini potatoes were good, as well as the fresh cranberry sauce. 2 slices of turkey stuffing was also given but i chose not to touch it at all.
Dad had a Honey Baked Ham with Pineapple Sauce
(Served with new potatoes, sauteed mushrooms and brussel sprouts)

3 relatively thick slices of honey baked ham, unevenly cut into varying thickness. I preferred this to mine as it tasted mildly sweet and not too saltish. The pineapple sauce added a zesty flavour.
Decided to change our beverages. i chose a Rosebuds Tea while he had a cuppuccino

Dessert choice was the Christmas Cheesecake with OREO Cookies

I liked it due to the sharp sweetness tasted with every bite, plus oreo cookies are a great match for cheesecakes. However, it may be too sweet for some.
Overall: The efforts put into the dishes is obvious, and i liked how each of them is presented. However, it may not be worth it to pay so much for some of them.
