Cahaya Muslim Eating Place
homestyle halal food.
-Far East Plaza Level 5
This is one of the places you can eat at while you are at orchard road with your muslim friends. They offer a range of halal local food at considerably cheap prices. Because of the competition from the few other muslim eating houses beside it, i noticed that they introduced some really innovative dishes to the menu.
Honeydew Sauce Chicken Rice ($3)

There was a glaring mistake in the spelling of this dish on the menu. It says "honeydew source chicken rice" but its obvious what it was supposed to mean. Yes, this is something perhaps you may not find elsewhere. The light orange honeydew-flavoured gravy was thick and had fine slices of honeydew in it. Good twist to the plain old chicken rice.
Seafood Mee Soup ($3.50)

The soup came clogged with plenty of mixed ingredients like cauliflower, mushrooms, fishcakes, fishball, prawns and squid. The eggy broth was tasty enough but a little greasy. Below you get a huge portion of hongkong mee, which was soft and too soggy. But generally, it was not too bad for its price.
Bed Fried Rice ($3)

I have no idea to how its name came about, but this was just a simple fried rice with mixed vegetables. Evenly brown throughout, it contained pieces of squid.
Overall: I felt that the food here gave the "homey" feeling, like as though they were heartily prepared homecooked food. They also served free icewater, which was a good way to save on drinks. There are also Cze Char dishes for another choice. Nice place for budgeting and to have a nice halal meal.
