Casuarina Curry
heavens on a plate
-136/138 Casuarina Road (Off Upper Thomson Rd)

It is none other than Casuarina that offers quality pratas in an airconditioned environment. This place is like heaven to my sister, after having her bad and terribly hot prata meal at Jalan Kayu. Stepping in gave me a rather indian-y feel, probably due to the dim lights and blue+brown as their main colours. Orders were taken rather promptly and service was quick.

Plain Prata ($0.70)

The standard small round pratas, with thin crispy surfaces but softer interior. Their prata pastry has got a nice taste on its own, and was very much less oily. Dad commented that it was too thick for him.

Paper Prata ($0.80)

A fresh, entirely crispy prata folded into a rectangular shape.

Mushroom Prata ($2.50)

This is actually an egg prata filled with sliced button mushrooms. So perhaps they should name it mushroom egg prata instead.

The mushrooms came in thick chunks; juicy and tasty. The prata was good, crispy at the sides and soft in the middle. Plus, it had distinct layerings which made it more airy. Yummy~

I LOVE THOSAIS, and this happen to be one of the few places that serve really nice ones. Thosais are actually thin riceflour pancakes that tastes a little sourish due to the fermentation of its ingredients. Usually accompanied with dhal, coconut chutney and pickle dips.

Plain Thosai ($1.20)

Okay i must rave about this. Their golden-brown thosais are nicely round and presented half-folded. It is crispy on one side and soft on the other. It takes much skill to achieve this!

Tastes good even when eaten plain.. so far the best thosai ive had!

Mushroom Thosai ($2.20)

The same good thosai filled with juicy button mushrooms.

Chicken Masala ($3 for a small size portion)

One good dip for the pratas! The masala was rich and thick, with a tinge of spice. Although they do serve a thick piquant curry to pair with the pratas, we all preferred dipping into this instead. Simply savoury~

Overall: Fragrant pratas with minimal grease, thin crispy thosais, savoury masala and AIRCON, what more can i say? oh yes, and of course an icy cup of my favourite teh-o-bing. perfect. (:

Opening Hours: 7am-12am daily
