Ichiban Sushi
a branch in the heartlands
-Hougang Mall #02-23

Ichiban Sushi and Ichiban Boshi may sound similar but there is much difference in their menus. It one of the few Japanese restaurants i like but this is actually my first visit to the hougang mall outlet.

Chicken BBQ Wazen Set ($9.90)

I tend to enjoy ordering their seasonal value meals cause they are usually special and comes with a range of sides. I was drawn into this because i loved salmon sashimi and agedashi tofu, so its all-in-one!

The chicken slices were very tasty and completely marinated in a blackpepper-based sauce. Not bad for me that i cleared every slice of it.

3 slices of salmon sashimi.

2 cubes of Agedashi Tofu, which came a little soggy.

Salmon Tataki ($6.90)

I always wondered how they can grill the salmon so that its evenly cooked on the outer edges and stil remain nicely raw inside.

However, the salmon here was rather disappointing. It wasnt exactly fresh and was too thinly sliced. Also, the sweet sauce was bland. Try it at the other branches instead.

Double Salmon Roll ($5.30)
"fresh salmon, fried salmon, cucumber, shrimp roe, spicy sauce"

Maguro Maro ($5.30)
"fresh scallop, shrimp roe, tuna, spring onion, mayo"

Jyo Unagi Sushi ($5.30)

This is premium unagi and therefore its more pricely.

Overall: My set meal did not disappoint and i find it really value-more-money! A pity the salmon tataki wasnt fresh enough ):
