Mini Wok
local favourites in a wok
-S11 Coffeeshop @ Blk 711 Ang Mo Kio Ave 8

Certainly one of the more popular stalls in the coffeshop, and was featured in Where the Queue Starts (by Bryan Wong & Cavin Soh). The staff and chefs here are from hongkong and interacts with each other in cantonese. Every single dish here is cooked upon order, so you are ensured with hot piping czechar meals served in small individual metal woks.

Customers here are pampered with plenty of choices at economical prices. Rice items at $4- porkribs, chicken, fish, pork and even deer meat(!) in different types of gravies all comes with a fried egg. You may want to try their specials like Tempura Prawn Rice($4) and Soft shell crab Tempura rice ($8). A whole range of fried rice, noodles and horfun available as well.

Fried Mee Tay Mak ($3.50)

Close to the hongkong style, and tasted a little sweet. It was evenly fried throughout, and of just the right timing. Small bits of charsiew and shrimps can be found, but the cabbage shreds were to little for me. Beansprouts were too soft and lacked the crunchyness that i liked.

Minced Meat with Beancurd Rice ($4)

The rice was alot and was completely drenched with the thick brown gravy. The thick pieces of egg tofu came in a nice brown colour and was well complemented by the minced meat, mushrooms and capsicum bits. Came with a fried egg and it was a really filling meal.

Porkchop Horfun ($3.50)

It was good that they deep-fry the porkchop on the spot to ensure that no customer would taste soggy ones. The horfun was rather normal and nothing much to rave about.

Overall: I took a long time to think before i could decide on what to eat. I would say its czechar fare worth its price and will make you return for more. I will be back to try the Ginger Spring Onion Sliced Fish Rice (:
