Punggol Nasi Lemak Centre
a disappointing difference
- Upper Serangoon Road (Mei Sek Coffeeshop)

The queue here builds up every single evening, and stretches all the way out of the coffeeshop. Punggol Nasi Lemak came a long way,
from its first branch in Brighton Cresent and then the second one here (around kovan estate). The Brighton Cresent outlet had moved to 238 Tanjong Katong Road a year ago but business was a little less brisk over there.

I eat this since young, and has never grew sick of it yet (: I like the large range of dishes to choose from, and they are always in the process of coming up with something new.

Nasi Lemak (Prices depends on the sides chosen)

My must-have picks are the sotong balls, fried wantons, lady's fingers; while the others depends on what i feel like eating on that day.

Their sotong balls and fried wantons are handmade, and deepfried well without the oily aftertaste. I especially love their fried wanton, but was kind of disappointed by this branch's slightly soggy ones.

The rice was also not as well done as the main Tanjong Katong branch; a little too dry and clumpy. Worse, the lemak taste and fragrance were too mild to be tasted.

In comparison, i absolutely enjoyed my visit to the TK outlet a few months back.

Over at the east, they owned the whole corner coffeeshop. Brightly lit, it provided a cleaner environment for the customers. More seats were also available.

Nasi Lemak

The lady's fingers here are visibly cut into larger pieces and also tasted much better in spicy sambal sauce. The rice was warm & soft, and lightly lemak.

Here's the best fried wantons ever! No minced meat in there at all; just well-marinated fish paste and chunks of crunchy chestnuts. Well-fried and totally tasty~

Overall: For the real good nasi lemak, its certainly better to travel further. Sacrificing quality for convenience is not something that i will do. Thus, im puzzled by the crowd who are willing to accept it. One thing to note; the price shoots if you pick too many dishes.
