18 Lohan Vegetarian Delight
mediocre restaurant substitute

For our reunion dinner this year, my maternal family side decided to drop the restaurant fare after the discovery of this place. Located all the way at the far corner of a HDB block, they seriously needed these bright lighting and signboards to be found.
Lunar New Year Set Menu (For 8) at $128 nett.
Lucky Abalone Yu Sheng

This vegetarian version deserved some mentioning. Served in a relatively huge mound, there were generous portions of pomelo flesh, crackers and chopped peanuts. Taste was just nice after all the mixing.
Four Variety Cold Dish

Nothing really special about this to shout about, just pretty standard stuffs that didn't appeal to me. There wasn't a distinct definition to the 'cold', and this was just cooked food at left at room temperature.
Braised Shark's Fin

I admit my comments for this may be a little bias, as my grandma makes really good vegetarian shark's fin soup. In comparison, theirs was overly starchy and only came with measly strips of ingredients. Worse, it became awfully watery after a while.
Properous Lotus Duck

Average tasting.
Nonya Style Fish Head

This was something better. The deep-fried fish chunks were at least able to absorb sufficient taste from the assam-like gravy.
Properous Mixed Vegetables with Abalone

Same standard taste as the duck dish, with the abalone slices way too thin to be tasted.
Deep-fried Golden Pillows

Alas, a dish which managed to salvage the meal.

The coating was well deep-fried to a crispy golden brown. Biting into the battered beancurd skin reveals some moist and savoury chopped ingredients. However, this dish is not part of the set but an additional order by us.
Salad Prawns

Once again, skills shown in deep-frying. But, the batter coating was extremely thick with only a pathetically thin slice of mock prawn in it.
Red Bean Soup

Terribly watery.
Overall: It is clear that most dishes from them (except the deepfried ones) were utterly disappointing. Serving time was also quite poorly managed, with the prawns arriving about 20 minutes after the previous dish. Prices may be generally cheaper than restaurants but im certain i would rather pay more for quality. Okay, but at least they showed some efforts in presentation.
