Ajisen Ramen
very commercialized noodles

Unlike many of their other outlets, this branch at bugis junction enjoys a roaring business. It was probably the first time i ever had to queue up for Ajisen.

Prawn Mayonnaise ($4)

Deep-fried battered prawn pieces that tasted oh-so-great with the sweet japanese mayonnaise.

Fried Dumpling ($4)

Terribly greasy; these pan-fried dumplings were practically coated with oil. The meat filling was alot and had a strong taste of the veggie in it.

Vegetable Ramen ($10)

Milky soup broth with golden & shitake mushrooms, carrot shreds, cabbage and corn kernels. A supposedly healthier choice but it was still rather oily. The ramen was softer than the previous time i had at the Taka branch, and lacked the al-denteness i was looking for.

Pai Ku Ramen ($10)

The same milky broth used, with tastily marinated pork rib pieces, miso egg and beansprouts.

Cray Fish Ramen ($10)

The crayfish meat was more than we expected; fresh and tender. It came with a shitake mushroom, miso egg and an additional dollop of chilli gravy.

Tom Yam Ramen ($10)

This is actually seafood ramen in tom yam broth; with squids, 4 huge prawns and a crabstick. The unshelled prawns were troublesome to peel and wasn't very fresh.

Overall: I guess Ajisen has improved quite a bit after it was badly condemned by many in the past. The special thing here is their unique 2-layer smooth noodles imported from Japan which makes it more tangy. I think the branch at Taka is quite good as well.
