The Cafe' Cartel
daily set lunches at nett prices
Lunch with my og mates after cross-country. We were all attracted by the nett-priced $9.50 Set Lunch Special. The choice of main course offered on Wednesdays was Baked Chicken in Mushroom Sauce with Steamed Rice or Pan-fried Seafood Pasta in Olive oil. Comes with soup-of-the-day, free-flow of homemade bread, a beverage and a dessert. super worth it!
Home-made Bread

i've always enjoyed munching on Cartel's homemade bread. It isn't fanstastic or anything, but i just liked that home-baked softness.
Minestrone Soup

More of a cream-style tomato soup which had a slight sourish taste. It was weird, and i didnt like it one bit.
Baked Chicken in Mushroom Sauce with steamed rice

Almost all of us chose to order this. The baked chicken fillet, topped with mushroom gravy and cheese, was too fatty. Came with sweet lil' carrots and cabbage in teriyaki sauce, in which i gobbled all up quickly. Ate up Therese and Cassandra's share as well =p
Pan-fried Seafood Pasta in Olive oil

Only grace had this. Linguine tossed in minimal olive oil; with squids, prawns, crispy fish pieces, mushrooms and green peppers. Although they were rather generous with the accompanying ingredients, the pasta portion was quite small and tasted rather bland.
Vanilla Icecream in Waffle Basket

To be truthful, all i expected from the dessert was just some pathetic stuff. Like how good can a set lunch dessert get, right? So when this came, i was like whoa! A scoop of vanilla icecream topped with whipped cream and chocolate syrup, all served in a waffle basket. Placed below it, was a nice piece of printed sheet for decoration. A pleasant surprise indeed.
St Louis Pork Ribs ($16.20)

Kenneth decided to go for this A La Carte dish instead of the set lunch. Expensive, but the ribs came in quite a big slab.
Overall: so much for a $9.50 nett set meal! The main courses are different for everyday of the week, so do go and check the menu out at cafe cartel. and they seriously deserve some praise for the nicely-presented dessert.
