Essential Brew
the cosy tea place

With a cosy and soothing interior, this place is the perfect relaxtion spot for all tea-lovers. Dishes here are unexpectedly infused with twists of tea in the most innovative ways. 2 types of seating available-on chairs or cushioned mats. Now, this is what i call special.

floor seating.
Grilled Tofu Steak ($4.75)
"Steak of beancurd grilled to a golden brown topped with fragrant Tea-marinated mushrooms"

8 pieces of hard-crust beancurd generously sandwiched and topped with mushrooms. Fully absorbing the flavour of the sauce, the shitake slices releases a delightful Jasmine Tea fragrance in your mouth. It was just a tad too salty.
Jasmine Cod Fillet ($20.95)
"Seasonal cod fillet coated with a thin Jasmine Tea crust & served with brown pepper sauce"

Their signature dish. No doubt the cod fillet was silky smooth and soft, but it was blandly lacking in the Jasmine taste. Only after the addition of the pepper sauce, that it managed to bear some flavour. Comes along with seasonal vegetables and a Jasmine Rice ball- which failed to impress. But i liked how the dish was completed with a dust of greentea powder.
Honey Mustard Chicken ($14.95)
"Tender boneless chicken grilled with Jasmine Tea and coated with delectable honey mustard sauce"

A large piece of boneless chicken chop, lightly drizzled with a sauce tasting purely like honey. Once again, there was a poorly-defined infusion of Jasmine Tea. Same sides given.
Apple Crumble with Green Tea Icecream ($7.50)
"Freshly baked apple crumble served with Green Tea cream sauce, available just as it is or savoured with Green Tea ice cream"

A solidly thick slab of buttery crumble, crammed with soft stewed apple slices below. The distinct separation of the two layers and the overbaked hard crumble failed to give the melt-in-the-mouth sensation. It came with a green tea cream sauce. The Green Tea ice cream (from New Zealand Natural) was extremely green in colour and was strong in flavour.
Berry Flurry Shake ($6.25)
"Red tea shake with the goodness of blackberry and strawberry"

Seductively red in colour, this icy slush came with a scoop of icecream for an extra oomph. Seriously berry-ful.
Rose Buds Flora Tea ($4.25)
"Sensuous flavours of wafting pink rosebuds - the flower of romance"

A cup of hot tea with the mild scent of pretty rosebuds.
Overall: I'll give them full marks for the concept, ambience and variety. However, the food can be better improved on. Still, its a nice place and i will certainly revisit for more tea-some meals.
