Ohsho
authentic kansai chain

Tucked away in an easily-missed corner at Cuppage Plaza is an authentic ramen chain from Kansai, Japan. Offering simple and accessible ramens, they are sure a popular hit with the working class around the area.
Despite the rather cramped and stuffy eating environment, the crowd still seems to be drawn in by the affordable authentic fare. The few available tables are usually occupied, so you may wish to make do with counter seats directly facing the open kitchen.
Gyoza ($4)

My expectations were naturally lifted after hearing raves about Ohsho serving Japan's best gyozas, especially since its their signature specialty. However, my excitement for it sank once i took my first bite.

These griddle-fried pillows were overly greasy and lacked the punch. The minced meat & onion stuffings merely boasted a strong vinegar taste and nothing else. zero excitement.
Miso Ramen ($10)

The soup base didn't go too well for me, as the salty miso covered the real taste of the soup entirely. One thing i can probably praise about is their thick ramen; although not fantastic but still softly pleasant. The char-shu was also visibly leaner than most others.
Tamago Ramen ($10)

Being the most popular ramen dish here,it clearly scored better than the miso ramen. The smooth pork stock is deceivingly simple yet delicious while the skilfully boiled egg had its yolk left a tad uncooked.
Overall: The best part about this casual japanese fare is the value. Many may just keep coming back for their affordable authentic ramen, which is generally worth it. Friendly service but poor environment.
