Padang Palace Restaurant
clubhouse luxury eats

Reunion dinner with paternal grandma on New Year's eve. There were 2 timeslots available but we were only left with the 8pm one at their 1883 lounge. New Year Menu priced at $68.80+++ per person.

Prosperity Salmon Fish "Yu Sheng"

I liked the raw salmon slices as well as the large portion of crackers, but the overall was a tad too dry.

Superior Double-boiled Sharks Fin Soup with Sea-whelk

It was hard to go wrong with luxury dishes like this, since most will enjoy them due to the price. The double-boiled broth was clear-tasting and had considerable amounts of sharkfin and sea whelk inside.

Braised "8-head" Abalone with Mushrooms

The 5-star bliss rating is partially due to the fact that i only get to eat abalone once in a blue moon, seriously! And these were really of superior quality.

Most get put off by the fishy and 'unchewable' texture of abalones, but this showed none of those. The abalone was substantially firm, bitable and had no trace of fishyness at all.

Deep-fried Cod Fish with Honey Sauce

The soft codfish didn't go too well with the hard outer coating, which became a mismatch of texture. I didn't like the sauce as well.

Fried Prawns with Oats in French Style

Nothing spectacular about this dish. The prawns were rather dry and tough from the deep-frying and sadly did not manage to give any hint of flavour from the oats.

Stir-fried Glutinous Rice
with Preserved Meat, Dried Shrimps and Mushrooms

I enjoyed chewing off this sticky gooey rice dish. Although some parts were clumpy, the rice was flavourful with the preserved meat and shrimps.

Dessert of the day:
Cream of Red Bean with Lotus Seeds

One of the better versions of red bean soup. Scooping up, you get chunks of soft red bean mush and lotus seeds.

Overall: Pricing a tad too expensive for the small portions of food per person, and the service was slow and rather disorganised. Also, because we were situated in the lounge below the restarant (which was fully booked), some food came cold after being brought down.
