The Soup Restaurant
chinatown heritage cuisine
For most people, the heartiest fare is certainly a good home-cooked meal with the family. But for the minority who don't get a chance to have decent home-fare, the Soup Restaurant is the place to give you the bliss.
Apart from offering a considerable range of home-styled dishes, they also specialise in serving the most authentic heritage cuisine. With this i mean the dishes from way back to the Samsui times.

The place is furnished like the olden days chinatown- bamboo poles, wooden tables, red drapes and lanterns. Somehow it appears too deliberate.
Braised Peanuts ($2)

Steamed soft peanuts- a compulsory appetiser for every table.
Samsui Ginger Chicken ($13.80)

Their unique heritage treasure; prepared in the same traditional way as the Samsui women did in the old days. Just focus on that ginger dip in the middle.
Claypot Tofu ($8)

My all-time favourite dish. Especially tender pieces of home-made tofu fully boasting the eggyness it should possess. The unusually thick garlic gravy reflected some skill as well.
Fish Slices with Ginger & Spring Onion ($9)

They never fail to serve fresh slices of skinless fish meat. Spring onions and ginger added extra fragrance to the dish.
Ah Gong Fan Shu Ye ($6)

Potato leaves stir-fried with sambal chilli. Pretty normal.
Double-boiled Soup-of-the-day ($9)

Overall: Very traditional dishes that i yearn to eat, since my maid's cooking is never up to standard. A good place to take your grandparents for dinner.
