Whitebait & Kale
sparks of culinary creativity
It got me wondering, why a restaurant in a iconic medical centre?
However, in spite of their odd location, they still managed to be packed with patrons during the dinner period.

This intended sydney-style establishment looked promising with their simple white walls and high ceilings. Daily specials were handwritten on a huge overhanging chalkboad, with mirrors fronting the open kitchen where the food preparation may be viewed.
Foodwise i would say its smartly-conceived comfort food, gleaming with sparks of creativity.
Crispy Whitebait with Homemade Tartare Sauce ($12)

A bowl of deep-fried whitebait was an obvious choice to begin the meal with, after some recommendations from the waitress. Who knows, this house-specialty could be how their name came about. Unfortunately, it fell below expectations- loaded with starch and being more of chewy than crispy.
Pan Fried Crab Cake, Asparagus & Bush Tomato Chutney ($21)

Here's one thoughtfully concocted appetiser that managed to get me hooked. These substantial patties lusciously comprised of delicate crabmeat and chopped peppers- and was no doubt very satisfying.
Capellini with Jumbo Lump Crabmeat
& Grilled Peppers In Extra-virgin Olive Oil ($26)

The use of finer angel-hair pasta proved to be more al dente and less soggy. Right amount of olive-oil used and well-paired off with the fresh crabmeat chunks.
Baked Snapper Pie ($29)

This popular mainstay on the menu was indeed remarkable.

Hidden beneath the flaky puff-pastry crust was a steaming-hot cooked snapper fillet bathed in light cream sauce. The slab came fresh, moist generously huge in portion. Plenty of soft moist mushrooms full of creamy flavour also added to the goodness of this dish.
Churros with Warm Chocolate Pot & Strawberries ($11)

I admit about my disappointment of my initital look at it- it had absolutely no resemblance to the mexican churros i expected. However, my first bite declared it as an worthy substitute. These awesome made-to-order fried dough coated with nicely-spiced sugar were just too soft to resist.
Profiteroles with Macadamia Ice-cream & Chocolate Dip ($13)

Another wonderful dessert to end off the meal with. The creamy,sweetness-packed icecream came with entire macadamia nuts in every bite! Furthermore, it was wholesomely topped with more caramelised nut chunks. Sadly, the profiteroles were too hard to impress.
Overall: The staff, discerning with recommendations, were surprisingly clear and detailed with descriptions. I certainly enjoyed every mouth of their desserts, they were simply to-die-for. A truly well-worth visit.
