928 Ngee Fou Ampang Yong Tau Foo
a localised hakka delicacy

Finally, a good plate of Ampang Yong Tau Foo for me. I've only eaten ampang yong tau foo (at East Coast Road) once a long time ago but i remember i liked it. And here there is a popular eatery at Thomson specialising in traditional hakka styled yong tau foo.
Ampang versions are different in a sense that the pieces are deep-fried and submerged in a special gravy. You don't actually get to choose your preferred ingredients as they usually come with fixed choices.
Mixed Yong Tau Foo Platter for 2 ($7, $3.50 per pax)

A standard set here would include fishballs, tofu, fried wantons, fried beancurd skin, taugwa, ladysfinger, bittergourd, quail eggs and a bunch of kangkong. The highlight is not the ingredients but the thick brown gravy bursting with garlic flavour.
With the gravy, the dry rice and fried items became much tastier. The fried beancurd skin was slightly too greasy for me but i liked the quail egg (:
Dumpling Soup ($2)

They suggested we order their dumpling soup to try so we went along with it. I was rather disappointed when it first came but looks can be deceiving.. the dumplings actually tasted quite nice with smooth pasty filling and crunchy chestnut chunks.
Overall: The crowd is probably attracted by their power gravy, filling up the eatery inspite of the heavy rain. One problem; it is very difficult to come here without a car.
