Ananda Bhavan Veg Restaurant
keeping up with technology

Tagged along with sis to bring her foreign exchange buddy from China around Little India area. Decided to stop by this bright eating place for a south indian breakfast. They looked rather promising with an organised order-at-the-counter system, touch-screen machine and an electronic number display board. wow high tech!

Appam ($2.40)

Probably the best dish among our orders. Their appams were made fresh at an open counter just beside our table and served steaming hot with brown sugar and coconut milk. Crispy at the edges, moist and fluffy in the middle and beared a mild coconut flavour. The china girl loved this.

Plain Thosai ($1.50)

Once again, my usual order of plain thosai with the 3 standard dips.

Their thosais were airy but slightly too thin and soft (no crispy parts at all). Not too bad in taste but it wasn't impressive with the traces of grease all over.

Paper Thosai ($2.40)

We were expecting a standing cone-shaped tower as seen on their display but we realised that was called a "rocket thosai" instead =p So our order came thin but folded into a flat rectangular sheet.

Plain Prata ($2.00)

Badly-done tough pratas which absolutely lacked the fluff. Not worth trying at all.

Tea with Milk ($0.90)

had a rather pleasant milk taste.

Overall: Their general pricing is a tad higher than other places and most orders came in standard sets of 2. Food is pretty average (appam was good) but the prata seriously didn't make the cut. Could be the finest eating environment found in little india but I doubt i would return .
