Cafe Melvados
the original brownie cafe

Although nestled in a unprominent location, they certainly serve up one of the most exclusive desserts in Singapore. This is where you can you find the sensational sizzling hotplate brownie! (as shown on tv) Claiming to be the original brownie cafe, they must have a way with their range of gourmet brownies.

Dull-coloured furnishing fills the cafe, only using natural sunlight to reduce the darkness. The main brown colour and dim lighting draws in a country-like cosy feeling while the red drapes and curtains added a feminine touch.

Black & White Kisses ($5.90)
"dark chocolate brownie laced with black and white chocolate chips, served warn with a dash of strawberry sauce and a scoop of vanilla icecream"

Not wanting to have melted icecream, i chose to have this instead of the sizzling brownie. Having high expectations for the brownie, i was a wee bit disappointed. Of a dryer texture, their brownie broke into small crumbly bits in the mouth and provided a bittersweet taste. It wasn't bad; but i actually anticipated something more moist than that.

Crumbly Apple Slice ($4.50)

Unlike those chunky and heavy crumbles around, this flat slab was certainly lighter on the palate. The crumble layers came extremely thin, sandwiching sufficient apple filling. These tiny well-stewed apple bits were soft and moist but came emaciatingly sweet with the addition of sugar syrup. Portion-wise just right for small eaters.

Overall: Unless you are familiar with the west, their location can be rather inconvenient to locate. Also, their brownies weren't fanstatic- better ones can easily be found.
