Jiaxiang Sarawak Kuching Kolo Mee
loss of authenticity

When they first started out, my family was attracted by their sarawak-imported noodles which tasted special and springy. So here i am, back at the killiney headquarters with mum and dad.

Signature Kolo Mee ($5.90)

I went for the standard signature kolo mee which came fully covered with minced meat, charsiew, prawns and wantons. The ingredients were fresh and i liked the tasty charsiew.

However, i was utterly disappointed when it came to the noodles. There was an obvious drop in quality compared to the first time i had this. The kolo mee was overcooked that had lost all its al dente-ness. All i enjoyed was just the unique flavour from the charsiew oil that its tossed in.

Fried Wantons ($3.90)

Their fried wantons were not too bad, crispy enough and had a soft mushy filling. Just a little too oily though.

Overall: Obvious drop in standard in the most important aspect. According to a newspaper article, they had started to produce their own noodles locally; NO MORE FRESHLY IMPORTED AUTHENTIC NOODLES. so i guess their popularity would drop as well since for the price, many would prefer getting a normal wanton mee at hawker centres instead.
