Mei Wei Xiang Fried Vegetarian Food
mock local delights

Serving up a range of local hawker delicacies, here's one good place for vegetarians to satisfy their tastebuds. The food is decent enough and most importantly, cheap.

Popiah ($1 each)

Our order came neatly wrapped and arranged.

Loosely encased were fresh turnip filling which gladly did not oversoak the resilient skin layer.

Fried Oyster ($2)

This looks just like the real oyster omelettes. A clever use of button mushrooms as subtitutes for oysters and the result was just as appetizing.

Fried Rice ($2)

Standard dish with mock prawn and ham bits.

Hokkien Mee ($2)

Comes with pieces of mock charsiew and fishball but was too watery.

Chicken Rice ($2)

Deep-fried breaded mock chicken meat with rice. It was too dry without any gravy.

Overall: A joy factor for vegetarians; now that they can have such mouth-watering local fare in vegetarian versions. The food fared good enough- promising in looks, average in taste. Reasonably priced at $2-3.
