Outram Park Ya Hua Rou Gu Cha
bah kut teh goodness

A fine afternoon lunch at dad's regular bah-kut-teh haunt. The place is usually packed on weekends hence the slow service. This time round we went slightly later and managed to avoid the crowd.

Other than attaining the Singapore Street Foods Master award and being well-commented by Makansutra, they also achieve in a whole load of famous patrons! Many local and overseas personalities actually choose to have their bah-kut-teh fix here. And that includes 5566 (:

Pork Ribs Soup (Ba Gu Teh)

A well-tasty bowl of clear, peppery soup with 3 fresh meaty cuts of ribs. On first sip, the soup may appear choking but it gets better subsequently.

Sliced Fresh Fish Soup

This is something we had to order; the fish slices are always extremely fresh and tender!

Braised Peanut

A tad too oily for my liking.

Braised Beancurd (Tow Kua)

Being one of my favourite dish here, their servings of tau gua are surprisingly good. The entire tender slab of beancurd was completely brown in the interior- a sign of the full absorption of the marinade. It comes steaming hot with fragrant shallots and bursting with a nice sweet savoury flavour- skilfully delicious!

Braised Beancurd Skin (Tow Pok)

Although a tad less tasty than the tau gua, these loose fluffy taupoks were still very delectable.

Fried Dough (You Tiao)

A compulsory order served to every table to be dipped into the soup.

Steamed White Rice

Clear grains of rice that came pretty dry and undercooked.

Tea

We never fail to have our some freshly brewed tea to go with our bah-kut-teh meals. Over here, there's even a tea bar to store the personal tea leaves of their regular customers.

Overall: Prices are not stated in the menu and the bill is manually calculated by the number of plates you have on the table. A meal like this for 2 costs $21, which was rather reasonable. Since it dad's favourite place, i had nothing else to complain about.
