Prata Cafe
where creativity strikes

Once a popular hit at its former location at Evans Road, Prata Cafe should sound familiar to many people. Now standing along the Upper Thomson Road food stretch, they continue to serve tasty offerings of specialty pratas and many more.

Sad to say, they now occupy a smaller shop unit and without air-conditioning. Seats were also available in a small alley outside the shop which takes advantage of the bright natural lighting and breeze. However, i preferred the shop seats which looked very much like those in restaurants.
Their A4 sized menu came double sided, with long listings of food on one and drinks on the other. Some tempting headings included; Freshly-made specialty pratas, on-demand house pratas, delicious thosais, murtabak, roti-john specials, rice & curry set meals, gorengs, house specialties and a range of side dishes. What a variety!
Plain Thosai ($1)

Being one of my all-time favourite, i definitely had to sample their thosai. I usually go for the plain ones because they would reveal the natural flavour of their batter- and i wasn't disappointed.

Slightly airy, this thin flat piece of batter beared a pleasant light taste. However, almost the entire thosai came soft with only the extreme sides being crispy- so it currently comes in after Casuarina's.
French Prata ($3.50)
"yummy banana fillings with a spread of nutella chocolate sauce"

Listed as one of their freshly-made specialty pratas, this french prata was certainly one of a kind. The prata came warm and looked splendidly attractive with the sprinkling of rainbow chips over chocolate sauce.

The taste was even more to rave about. A sweet-tasting plain prata encased with soft mildy caramelised bananas, wonderfully complemented with the smooth chocolate-flavoured nutella and a dash of rainbow chip. Just simply indulging! The best part was that the prata came absolutely grease-free(really!). Trust me, this is one prata everyone would love.
Maggi Goreng ($3,+additional $1 for extra mee)

It takes some skill to stir-fry maggi mee well, without being over soggy or clumpy. I guess they managed to achieve that and made it tasty as well.
An optional add-on of Mata Lembu ($0.50) turned out to be a sunny-sideup egg.

Nicely moulded into a round shape, neat!
Iced Tea ($1)

What further made my enjoyable meal was the really friendly service from the staffs. They initiatively interacted with me as i photographed their food and manage to draw close links with their customers. So here's the amicable boss Mr Chendrew and his staff;

Overall: It was truly a plesant meal for me as i loved the food and casual service (although the shop was just a little hot). They also had other special prata varieties like maggi mee, icecream, chipchop, italian, hawaiian and turkey- sounds so good! Without a doubt, i will be back! (:
