Teppen Cuisine
street-style teppanyaki

It can be really heartening to know that Japanese Teppanyaki can be savoured at much affordable prices (: I have been patronising this stall for a long time but only for take-aways. Finally, a chance to eat-in and enjoy the food on a hotplate. Now, thats what i call teppanyaki.

A ranging selection of seafood and meat is available with various sauces. Sets like teriyaki codfish/chicken/salmon/unagi, chicken/salmon garlic butter, yakiniku beef, cuttlefish butteryaki, saba shioyaki, chicken/beef udon - its surely enough for you to choose from.

Cuttlefish Butteryaki Set ($6.80)

Every set includes white rice, miso soup, pickles, fried egg and beansprouts. All the details of a basic japanese meal is covered.

I was surprised by the huge portion of squid given. Sauteed in a fragrant garlic-flavoured gravy, the softly springy squid pieces were adequately savoury. Delicious but slightly too greasy. Miso soup contained fresh tofu cubes and had a subtle flavour.

Chicken Garlic Butter ($4.80)

Deep-fried chicken in a shoyu based sauce and topped with a sprinkling of crispy garlic bits. Overall the dish was too dry due to the inadequate sauce given.

Overall: For its price, these sets are really value-for-money. The portions are generous enough to fill and they taste great in the different sauces. So good teppanyaki need not only be found in restaurants.
