Uno Beef House
shining in the heartlands

Tucked away in an HDB block just off Toa Payoh Lorong 5 is a hidden gem of a Western food stall. It was once featured on Where the Queue Starts where they raved a whole load about their Brazil-imported beef, steak gravy and homemade potato balls.
Even with the seating area stretched out and away from the stall, we had to wait before an empty table was available. Both quality and variety worked hand-in-hand to strike with the crowd.
Garlic Bread

The first to arrive with the cutleries is the garlic bread, one slice each for every main order. I was probably hungry then, but i liked this alot. The bread was solidly thick and came completely toasted to a stiff but crispy slab. My only grouse was the paltry amount of garlic spread, which didn't manage to bear much taste to the bread.
Black Pepper Sirloin Steak ($8)

Presenting their signature dish.. served in a hotplate shaped like a bull! According to the programme, the highlight of this dish is actually the sauce, which is cooked for over 10 hours! However, the comments i received was less positive; over-tough meat and unimpressive sauce.
Black Pepper Chicken Chop ($5)

This is probably the best chicken chop i've had so far!

The generous portion of chicken was cooked to perfection- succulently juicy and tender. Marvellously marinated with a black pepper crust, every mouth of it came so tasty and flavourful. Amazingly done.
Potato Ball

Another noteworthy aspect is the replacement of fries with their exclusive homemade potato balls. This palatable carb-providing blob had a layer of soft but distinct coating made of the finest breadcrumbs. Breaking it apart reveals smoothly mashed potato filled with buttery satisfaction.
Overall: They offer over 20 varieties of western fare freshly made from scratch. Generous portions, reasonable prices and outstanding food. Go for the chicken chop, it is superb.
