Vinco The Doughnut Parlour
one unprofessional newcomer

After the breakout of Donut Factory crazing, Singaporean's undying love for doughnuts clearly proved a huge potential market. Joining in the business is Vinco, which opened its first store at the bustling VivoCity. The crowd here was of an obvious difference from Donut factory but still managing a visible queue during the peak periods. I immediately headed for the end of the queue without much hesitation- i just had to do a comparison.

Doughnut pricing here is exactly the same as Donut Factory's.
$1.20 each
$6 for 6
$11 for 12
They offer 17 flavours (2 more than Donut Factory), including.. Chocolate Cinnamon, Chocolate Delight, Cinnamon Caramel, Mighty Almond, Mochattio, Mon Cherie, Ms Rich, Original Glaze, Pine-n-pur, Royal Cheese, Sa-shi-mi, Sky Berry, Smiling Nutz, Stormy peanut, Sweer Sensation, Sweety Cheese and Zesty Glaze.

Assorted Half-dozen Doughnuts ($6)

It took me only about 10 minutes of waiting before i got my hands on a box of them. The first noticable difference was the varying odd shapes of the doughnuts, which made it look terribly unprofessional.

Yes,their doughnuts were frankly as soft (or perhaps even softer) as DF's, but they weren't one bit fluffy. Biting in, the doughnuts sink softly with your teeth and mushed; with no resilience at all. The dough tasted well, but the uneven glazing failed to score.

Chocolate Delight

A plain interior doughnut with glazed thickly with both dark & white chocolate. Imperfect spider-webbing pattern and very uneven coating done.

Cinnamon Caramel

My favourite flavour so far; a pleasantly light caramel glaze with a touch of mild cinnamon flavour.

Sky Berry

Another hole-less doughnut, this time with heavy dustings of icing sugar and a sweet blueberry jam topping in the centre.

Stormy Peanut

A classic combination of finely chopped peanuts on top of a thick layer of dark chocolate.

Mighty Almond

White chocolate coating with a handful of roasted almond flakes for the crunch.

Sa-shi-mi

Darkchocolate-glazed with generous sprinkling of sesame seeds; it didn't go too well.

Overall: I can instantly declare Donut Factory as an obvious winner after my first bite. Dough-wise they may only be lacking in the fluffiness, but the quality and presentation is visibly substandard. Irregularly odd shapes, overthick and not-at-all-smooth glazing, messy dabbings of toppings- they definitely need plenty of fine-tuning.
