Central TomTon
savour the black pig delicacies

During a recent trip to the Central Mall, i discovered a concentration of Japanese Restaurants on the third level. One of them that attracted my attention was TomTon, where they claim to be the first in Singapore offering black pig dishes. The first and only time i had black pork was during my Korea trip last year, and i was sure ready to taste it again.

Seafood Tonkatsu Set ($20.80)

The Tonkatsu section on the menu looked so tempting that i made an immediate decision to go for it. My seafood set consisted of Prawn and Fish with Nori tonkatsu. Both fared well with some quality breadcrumb coating but i particulary liked the fish. Its mushy texture came as a good contrast with the crispy batter and the addition of seaweed sheets gave it some extra taste.

The miso soup was a delightful bowl of subtle-tasting soup with plently of black pork strips and fine carrot (both red & white) slices. Makes you slurp it up to the very last sip.

Black Pig Loin Katsu (top grade)

Now for the black pork tonkatsu- it didn't disappoint.

The black pork was pretty tender and exudes a very distinctive flavour.

Strawberry with Mochi Green Tea Icecream ($7.80)

Picked a pink-based dessert out of the three choices. The bland mochi skin was too thick and only contained a measly slab of oversweet green tea icecream. Strawberry slices lay atop a small pool of sweetened condensed milk and dusted with fine icing; i liked how it gave an intense sugar rush.

Whole Orange Jelly ($5.50)

It was sure an innovative idea to use the entire orange skin as a mould for their pulpy jelly. A rather refreshing dessert to end the meal with.

Overall: Craving for some black pork? Then here's the only place where you can savour it in the various forms. Their Tonkatsu items are also one of the better ones around.
