Crystal Jade La Mian Xiao Long Bao
slurp up to the last strand
A random decision to have shanghainese food for lunch with my parents. Its been long since we last came here and apparently they have relocated & revamped the whole place.

watch the chefs cook while you wait.
Panfried Pork Dumpling in Hotplate ($4.20)

This "woh tie" is my favourite dish of the meal. Extremely smooth meaty paste is encased in a neatly wrapped skin, and the bottom surface was nicely fried till stiff and brown. I couldn't justify the extra cost for the redundant hotplate though(unless the pathetic shreds of veggie count).
Shanghai Steamed Pork Dumpling ($3.60)

Coarse meat filling in rather thick skin- it just lacks the punch. Yes, some juices did ooze out but their version is obviously less skilful than the top-notch Din Tai Feng's.
Shanghai "La Mian" with Pork Rib ($7)

Here's my order; their signature lamian in a plain broth accompanied with some pork rib chunks. The handmade noodles were quite promising, evenly pulled into smooth-textured strands. However, i didn't exactly like the over-deepfried and fatty meat.
"La Mian" with Minced Pork & Vegetable Wanton ($7)

My parents shared this- the same noodles and soup with wantons instead. Shouldn't be too bad because the soft wanton skin looks fabulously smooth.
Overall: Pretty good hand-pulled noodles that came in huge portions, but i would definitely not come here specially for their dumplings- Din Tai Feng is still the ultimate.
