Ichiban Boshi
sushi and so much more
A weekend lunch with my parents at our family's favourite Japanese resturant where we frequent to chalk up some loyalty stamps. Ichiban Boshi offers quality japanese food at rather affordable prices as compared to some other restaurants. With consistently good service together with the pleasant dining ambience, the long queues during meal times are well-justified.
Agedashi Tofu ($4.80)

Agedashi tofu may be a common japanese dish but theirs is one of the better ones around. Just a thin layer of batter coats the hot tofu and it comes partially submerged in a light shoyu sauce.
Tonjiru ($4.90)

This was listed under their new "Prosperity Pork" promotional menu. A bowl of mild miso soup with plenty of pork slices, carrots and something like the oden jelly. The ingredients makes it a tad sweeter than the normal miso broth.
Shitake ($2.20)

dry-grilled shitake mushrooms seasoned with salt and pepper; dad's favourite.
Black Pepper Pork Rib ($9.90)

Here's another order from the promotional menu. Nothing much to rave about actually, its pretty hard to go wrong with the standard black pepper paste.
Salmon Shio ($9.80)

It was supposed to be salmon teriyaki but dad requested to have it plain-grilled instead. The salmon was thick and came with a nice side salad drizzled with teriyaki sauce.
Nabeyaki Salmon Set ($13.90)

Shared this promotional value meal with mum. 2 basic mains; soft shell crabs with chilli tomato sauce & salmon simmered in dashi stock came accompanied with rice, miso soup and oranges. The four salmon slabs were really thick and light-tasting in the sauce.
Tempura Ice Cream ($4.80)

We were all pretty fascinated by the interesting concept of deep-frying icecream but it sure took a long time to be served. Eventually, a tempura ball topped with strawberry sauce arrived.

Cutting the tempura skin apart revealed cold vanilla icecream, still frozen and icy. Didn't fascinate but tasted quite alright.
Overall: The 2 reasons drawing us back is clear; the loyalty card and the good food (my sister will gladly agree with that). With the constantly changing value meal choices as well as the introduction of new promotional menus, we can be ensured with something different to try every visit.
