Le Viet Cafe Restaurant
the place for viet cuisine

Among the prominent stretch of resturants in Siglap lies a very promising vietnamese restaurant; another one of dad's frequent lunch haunt. Brightly lit and spacious inside, Le Viet brings out a modern ambience with hints of vietnamese culture.
The last time i had vietnamese cuisine was probably during my childhood days, since i have absolutely no memories of it. Hence, the orders were made based on dad's recommendations but i suggested to try the traditional viet-stlye spring rolls.

The first to arrive were plates of condiments for each of our noodle order. This consisted of raw beansprouts, basil leaves, chilli padi & lemon to complement the soup.
Pho Hai San Thap Cam ($8.50)
"fish slices, prawns, squid served with noodles in chicken stock"

Don't be deceived by the orange looking soup, its nowhere near spicy. Instead, it bears a fade sourness from the tomatoes and the nice mix of flavours made the soup pleasantly fragrant. Was also well-surprised by the Pho rice noodles; silky, smooth-sliding and offers a unique al-denteness. No complaints about the pretty generous serving of seafood except that the small prawns were slightly too soft. Nice mix of flavours which made the soup pleasantly fragrant.
Pho Ga ($6)
"shredded chicken served with noodles in chicken soup"

Mum and dad both had this. The soup broth is clearer and lightly sweet.
Chao Tom ($8)
"sugar cane prawn-fresh prawn & fish minced into a paste & wrapped over sugar cane. a popular vietnamese dish"

A very interesting presentation of prawn paste well-marinated with spices and black pepper bits. Tasted nnot bad but i couldn't actually sense the significance of the sugarcane.
Cha Gio ($6)
"crispy pork spring roll"

This didn't appeal to me that much. The skin was starchy and the filling of minced pork, shrimps and yam was pretty rough. Bland and only tasted nice when dipped into the sweet sauce.
Overall: A good introduction to Viet food for me, and i will certainly start a hunt for more good Pho noodles. Service was pretty quick here and it did not take long before the food was served.
