be spoilt for choices

My sister and i brought our grandma out for dinner to one of her favourite heartland eating places. It may seem just like a usual small-scale vegetarian stall, but their menu is way more astounding. Most dishes here are cooked up on the spot to ensure steaming hot food and completed with presentable garnishing.
Stuffed Dough Fritter ($6 for 2 sticks)

Grandma insisted on ordering this for us to try- toasted youtiao stuffed with a special mock squid paste, acompanied with a peanut gravy. Being overmarinated and salty, it didn't exactly appeal to me. Worst, each stick of this actually cost a shocking $3! what a ripoff!
Hotplate Tofu & Rice Set ($5.30)

I was shocked to see the entire loaded hotplate when it was served. One large slab of deep-fried tofu laid over a bed of egg omelette and topped with plenty of colourful mixed vegetables. Everything was made fragrant by the gravy and sizzling hotplate (especially the egg). Came with rice and soup.
Chicken Rice Set ($3.50)

This is grandma's favourite dish here, fully resembling the real chicken rice! The set comes complete with a plate sliced mocked chicken, flavoured rice, soup and even condiments like dark sauce and chilli. A pity the rice was overcooked and way too soft this time.
Assam Fish Rice Set ($3.30)

Sister's order which also came with white rice and soup. A huge piece of deepfried mock fish cooked in assam gravy.
Overall: Apart from all these, they also have alot more varieties (fish and meat sets with different sauces, cze char dishes, local food etc). Generous portions at affordable prices, quite commendable actually. Sis loves their Lor Mee but its usually sold out by late morning.
