Pidvofr
unexciting continental fare

Prominently situated in the middle of the bustling Liang Seah Street is casual cafe offering continental food- dad's recommendation for our usual friday dinner. The set dinners here are available at $16.50 nett (with soup, salad, drink and dessert) but dad had a slightly pricier friday night special set at $19.50.

Mexican Bean Soup with Garlic Toast

Here's a more uncommon choice of soup- very akin to minestrone but more chunky with the onion and mexican beans. Its a good change from usual cream-based ones around.

Mixed Salad

Simple salad with sliced greens tooped with a dollop of standard thousand island dressing.

Pan-fried Chicken Breast Fricasse

This was their sole chef recommended main,' with brown mushroom tarragon sauce, potato and buttered vegetables. The creamy mushroom sauce was indeed savoury in its own style but i felt that the chicken was nothing to shout for. Very very buttery mashed potato.

Roast Pork with Brown Mushroom Sauce

Dad was lucky; it happened to be a friday when he wanted to have their Friday Night Special. I tried a small piece of it- the pork was no doubt something more than average but i cannot justify the extra cost of $3. Not totally worth it actually.

Spaghetti Napolitan ($8)

Mum went for a ala carte pasta order which was served hot in a ceramic flatdish. The spaghetti looked soggy and the sauce didn't seem very appetising either.

Bread and Butter Pudding

Finally, something more promising. Bread and butter puddings (what a weird combi!) were never my thing but this time i decided to take an adventurous attempt- no regrets. The soft warm pudding gave a delightful spongy texture and went fantastically well with the sweet milky drizzling. Certainly a nice end to the meal!

Ice Lemon Tea

Overall: Generally unimpressive food, but i was so glad that the dessert managed to outshine at the end. Considered rather steep in price; there are other more value-for-money choices out there.
