Summer House Donuts
Singapore's Dunkin Donuts?

Sometime back i walked pass this humble-looking donut house and took note of it. Not being able to resist the temptations, i specially returned to do some tasting- ooh, more donuts for me!

The place is so small and cramped inside that you reach the counter once you enter. Seats are provided outside the cafe for customers to savour the donuts fresh. I didn't actually see any sign of donuts being freshly-made as the staff were simply topping them.

Quite a variety offered, but most seemed pretty standard with nothing particularly wowing (a few unusual ones though). Prices varied for the different flavours, ranging from $1 to $1.80. Find it quite expensive actually.

Bought a box of 6 and i got $1 off.

Donuts placed vertically upright.

Immediately gobbled up the...
Cinnamon Circle ($1)

A very soft fluffy large-sized donut lightly dusted with extremely fine cinnamon sugar powder. Most of the powder had fallen off in the box, giving only a VERY VERY mild subtle taste. But the fineness made it nicely melt-in-the-mouth. Not bad at all!

Here's the other 5 i bought;

Summer Cookie ($1.40)

OREO-FLAVOURED, so interesting! Topped with white chocolate frosting and coarse oreo bits to produce a nice contrasting colour effect. However, looks can be deceiving- the oreo biscuits turned soft with time and didn't manage to give much taste.

Strawberry Shortcake ($1.80)

This was pretty good, the strawberry chocolate coating actually resembled the one on pocky (:

Inside was flowy strawberry jam with some pieces of strawberry preserves.

Hazelnut Almond ($1.80)

The topping to donut ratio is somewhat improportionate here. They were too stingy with toppings, especially the hazelnut coating. Think it is overpriced.

Almond Dice Custard ($1.80)

A oval-shaped custard-filled donut frosted with dark chocolate and topped with chopped almonds.

Poor quality custard is used- was super dry and artificial in both looks and taste. Worse, the almond bits weren't toasted.

Rainbow Bright ($1.20)

This is one super safe choice- there's just no way to go wrong with the rainbow rice toppings.

Their donuts were quite fragrant actually. I'd say its resonably good dough crippled by the lack of quality frostings. Nowhere close to the impressive Krispy Kreme & Donut Factory, but at least a class higher than commercial bakeries. Its certainly sufficient to satisfy most donut lovers with the Dunkin-resembling style.
