Tian Tian Hainanese Chicken Rice
the highly overrated one

This visit to maxwell is well-awaited, after hearing all those raves about their fantastic plates of chicken rice. Sometime back i happily came here with my sister, only to find out that they were sold out for the day. That could be a testimony to their popularity, but certainly not the quality.

White Chicken Rice ($2.50)

At first look and bite, nothing seemed to excite at all. It took several mouthfuls of rice for it to grow on me. The grains of rice were not too oily and gradually became delectable with a unique fragrance. Sad to say, the accompanying chicken meat did not make the mark- simply lacked in tenderness and taste. But the stinging chilli sure scored with spicyness that hits the back of your throat.

Beansprouts ($2)

Crunchy without the raw taste, blanched in a light and tasty sauce. But i still prefer Ming Kee's.

Overall: Best chicken rice in Singapore? i don't think so. They are somehow overrated, but it didn't fall too far back from my expectations. Yes good rice, but definitely not outstanding enough.
