V8 Cafe
wonderful movie-like dining

This is one type of cafe which will make me stop for a second look as i walk by. In fact, i have long taken notice of it and have since been looking forward to eating here! Having heard much about their signature black pepper pasta and baked rice, Jessica & i decided to lunch in one Saturday.

Being known as a Movies Cafe, it is is seemingly made to resemble the theatre's atmosphere. The lightings may appear dim from the outside, but the bright blue ceiling lights manages to illuminate the interior. Also noticed a couple of small television screens around.

Chicken Vegetable Soup

Every main dish comes with a soup-of-the-day and it was served shortly after our orders were taken. Watery, saltish and artificially tasting, the soup wasn't one bit satisfying. To add on, the chicken bits were just like dog food.

Black Pepper Seafood Spaghetti ($9.90)

I was absolutely glad that this didn't dissapoint like the soup did. Instead of using a black pepper sauce, the soft spaghetti is tossed in a blend of olive oil and plenty of real black pepper bits to give a delicious result. The taste was awesome and not at all cloying even after continuous mouthfuls. Generous portions of seafood given; prawns were fresh but the squids weren't.

Chicken Baked Rice ($8.80)

Another alluring dish- its ultra thin and crispy cheese crust displays skillful and perfected baking. Breaking it apart, you get piping hot rice moistened by a drench of thick chunky cream gravy, then further topped with small pieces of deepfried breaded chicken. Everything just blended into satisfying bites.

We took up their special offer of a Cake + Beverage Set for just $4.20++.

Blueberry Cheesecake

It surpringly deserved some special mention. Finely-textured cheese that glides easily in the mouth to form a soft mush and a tastable cheese flavour. I also liked how the crust was smoothly-baked and bearing a faint buttery taste. Sadly, the sticky blueberry topping as a let-down.

Oreo Cheesecake

Jessica's choice turned out to be another noteworthy slice of light cheese packed well with oreo flavour.

Tea with Milk

My tea was served after my main meal to complement my slice of dessert. I liked the way it came in a small teapot; it keeps it warm for a longer time. The waitress also very nicely initiated a refill of hot water for me.

Overall: Quality food and dessert makes this one of my most pleasant dining experience, with further joy added by their polite and attentive service. Its certainly worth a revisit! (:
