neighbourhood western fare

This new kid on the block is yet another one of those bringing restaurant-styled western food to the HDB heartlands. Consider them as Botak Jones' closest competitor- similar concept, menu items, presentation and even the black plates used!
Calamari Rings ($4)

Deepfried with skill, resulting in an eye-pleasing golden brown colour and airy crisp coating. The rings were huge, but their weakness was instantly revealed with my first bite. Under those thick batter coatings were shrivelled squid rings which lacked texture and tasted fishy. Looks can be deceiving.

Jumbo Fish n Chips ($6)
"pacific dory fish fillet deep fried with home-made batter and served with tartar sauce"

This came as another disappointment; the huge fish fillet was neither thick nor fresh.

Oven Roasted Salmon ($8)
"fresh Norwegian salmon baked with cream and topped with crumbs. healthy choice!"

The paltry slab of salmon was pathetic but at least it scored in taste. Bathed in a palatable cream sauce, the fillet managed to be sufficiently savoury. But the fries were just mediocre- overdry fillings with a spice powder too laidback in flavour. Nowhere near the ones served at Botak Jones.

I wanted to try their featured American Cheesecake but apparently it was unavailable that day. What a pity!
Overall: They may do all it takes to be on par with Botak Jones, but their food is still not up to mark. Freshness is a paramount aspect for seafood but it is unfortunately lacking in here.
