Hakata Nihon Ryori

I happen to notice an article about them while browsing through a Female magazine and decided to check this place out with my parents.

It wasn't one bit eye-catching at all in its location. Once you enter, it turns out to be a very traditional japanese home-styled place with all that wood furnituring.

Agedashi Tofu ($6)

Bearing no special expectations from this ever-common dish, my face literally lit up when i saw this being served. "Whoa, Special!" was the first thought i had, seeing the 3 cubes of tofu being wrapped around with seaweed and topped with nameko mushrooms. I took a bite and it totally disappointed-the coating was starchy and the sauce was just mediocre.

Nyumen ($10)

Mum's order was the first to arrive- a bowl of fine smooth noodles in a clear hot soup with vegetables, sushi prawn, fishcakes, salmon and a shitake mushroom. The nyumen looks like mee sua to me.

Seafood Soba ($12)

The original dish was supposed to be ramen but i had to changed to soba instead. I really regretted my decision after realising that they are famous for their Kyushu ramen- a wasted choice!

Nothing could go wrong with soba but their soup was an utter disappointment. The pork based broth was so shallow in taste that it totally beared no sign of it being boiled for long at all. I even had to use the chilli powder to cover up a weird bad taste in it. 2 prawns, squid and tuna slices were given with some cabbages and sliced onions as well.

Mentaiko Spaghetti ($12)

Daddy made a really special choice of having pasta in a Japanese restaurant, but it was sure pretty odd to see it served with a can of Kraft parmesan cheese and tobasco sauce. This dish was sure one of a kind; it outshines the 2 other noodle orders with its soft smooth fine noodles (which didnt exactly feel like spaghetti) evenly smothered with a subtle mentaiko dressing.

Mild, pleasant and simple.

A complimentry slab of watermelon for all after the meal.

I reckon this is a family business, with a chinese lady-boss (probably the wife of the main chef) and a maid as their waitress. Many other selections available, from rice sets to sushis and sashimis that are moderately priced. I feel like coming back to sample their ramen noodles!

Regrading the Hakata Nihon Ryori post.

I ate the food in this restaurant before. It was quite different from what you described?

And at the end of the post, you put Nakata instead of Hakata. =))

Haha... LOL. Just leaving my comments.
