Soon Soon Mixed Rice and Vegetables
casual dishes made so good!

The first ever entry on a recommendation from my sis!

This unpretentious teochew porridge stall in Serangoon Central is her usual lunch haunt when she worked at a nearby tuition centre in the past. After much persuasive commendations heard from her, i finally agreed to check it out.

We had to walk pass a long stretch of small-scale coffeeshops before reaching here (all selling similar stuffs) but boy, they were obviously the most oustanding stall to stand out with a queue! Catering mainly to the morning crowd, there weren't many dishes left when we arrived in the evening. Eventually, both of us ordered a bowl of white porridge with individual plates of dishes.

I was so glad with how my two choices impressed.

Bittergourd with Egg

Very light-tasting yet delicious. The bittergourd is of adequate bitterness for me and loosely fried with omelette.

Sweet & Sour Fish

Very fresh thick fish fried with a crispy batter, cut into pieces and drenched with a thick sweet and sour sauce- its tastes much nicer than the usual tomato sauce!

Also ate from her dishes, which happen to fare better than i expected.

Porkchop

Coated in a kind of black sauce thats really unique, not the normal soy nor black pepper sauce but a gap between sweet and savoury. The pork is also well-battered and without much fats, making it easy to bite. Nice!

Stir-fried Vegetables with Anchovies

Soft veggies fried with anchovies to give it the extra fragrance and taste. Sis loved it but i only found it not bad.

Beancurd

Sad to say, this one didnt fare too well compared to the other dishes. A greasy dish of normal beancurd cubes in a saltish sauce.

Fresh, good and generous portions of food at very resaonable prices- $6.70 for 5 dishes. what a steal! Frankly, they can even beat some restaurants hands down.
