Xing Long Cooked Food
array of delicious dishes

This is no doubt one of my favourite mixed rice stalls ever since i first tried it with Isabelle and Jessica during our secondary 4 school days (its opened by brina's family!). A bustling crowd is often seen during mealtimes but the ordering is quick with the efficient organisation and an extra helper. Many hearty homestyled dishes here to choose from, all good in their own ways. Although the pricing for the meat dishes may be a little steep, i assure you its worth it!

Rice with ladysfinger, otah, braised mushrooms ($3.50)

Whoa, every dish managed to stand out in their own ways. The otah was moist with adequate chunks of fish meat, and packed with the right intensity of spicyness. Ladysfinger was cooked soft and savoury with sliced onions and ikan billis but was just a tad too greasy. My favourite this time were the braised mushrooms- fully absorbing a thick delectable gravy with an extra touch of sweetness.

Rice with tempura fish fillet, ngoh hiang, beansprouts ($4)

The star item of the day had to be their homemade ngoh hiang roll. Although it failed to achieve any crispyness at all, its filling of huge chestnuts chunks to a smaller proportion of meat was simply palatable! Crunchy and tasty beansprouts done just right but the cold tempura fish fillet was less enticing. The tempura batter wasn't too bad but the meat? not-too-fresh, dry, little and expensive.

Despite the disappointment from the fish; i still feel that its very impressive being able to cook up so many dishes of standard. No wonder the queue. oh yes, and go early because their dishes might run out before dinnertime.
