Cafe Cartel

Dinner with Dad and Sis at Serangoon Garden. Cafe Cartel was dad's decision since it was the best eating location for him to monitor his car. This is probably the quietest branch you can find.

Requesting for a basket of their complimentary home-made bread is something i would do without fail. These hard-crusted, floury surfaced slices are resonably soft and makes a good headstart to the meal. An olive oil dip for dad as usual.

Home-made Bread

Grilled Dory Fish with Sambal Sauce ($12.50)

My main order of 2 dory fillets with sambal sauce, sauteed baby carrots & zucchinis, and waffle fries. Fish was as bland as ever, steering far from exciting. The sambal beared no hint of spicyness while the vegetables came too sweet. I liked the waffle fries best, which was a good change from the common straight cut ones.

Hawaiian Pork Chop in Cartel Special Sauce ($14.20)

Dad went straight for his usual; this is one value-for-money dish! They were surprisingly generous with the three large slabs of pork chops, which were all lean without any visible fats. Alongside came some sauteed zucchinis, straight cut fries, as well as pineapple slices to match that hawaiian theme. It was a rare scene to see him clear up the entire plate! (:

Baked Seafood Macaroni ($13.50)

Sis' choice was something more substantial- macaroni shells bathed in cream sauce and cheese. The fresh prawns, squids and fish pieces all looked so appetising!

Service charge at all Cartel outlets have been scraped but it shouldn't be an excuse for the terrible service here. The waiters had to wait for us to ask for cutleries, butter, water and stuffs instead of taking the initiative to bring it to us. That was just something i cannot tolerate.

Yes, I was a good pork chop meal this time. Seems to be dependent on one's luck. I remember the last time I had the same dish at this branch, it was mostly fat. Did realise that I finish all the fries too ! Amazing.
