Hog's Breath Cafe

American cuisine for lunch, how lovely (:
It was a lazy afternoon when Shar and i decided to head in here for some wholesome set lunch. Stepping in, a domination of second-hand parts in their decor well-impressed us. Every aspect of the interior is meticulously made to bring out a casual yet authentic american feel. All those carplates, wooden planks and stuffs simply reminds me of a typical american bar.
Then, we were allocated to a table deep inside the restuarant. Wonderful window spot- natural light sets in from the glass panels, well paired-off with a nice seaview as we dined.

The entire concept was pretty well-done, further proven by the amusing use of corona bottles as salt and pepper dispensers. We loved the service as well- politely engaging staffs served with a smile to make us feel welcomed. They just had to be more observant in noticing us when we needed assistance.
On to the food... A Dijonnaise Chicken ($12) for me and a Sirloin Steak ($16) for her. All sets come with a soup and dessert.

Mushroom Soup
Mushroom soup or fish chowder- today's choices both sounded equally appealing to me but i settled for the safer funghi choice eventually. Quality home-made stuff. The thick cream-based soup was full of a grainy texture from those tiny mushroom bits. So flavourful, plus those great-tasting garlic bread cubes absorbed with soup.

Dijonnaise Chicken
The portion of two thick chicken fillets, side salad and chunky fries was more than i could expect. Breast meat, nowhere near tender, came with avocado slices and a blanket of creamy dijonnaise mustard. It was forgettable with its bland marination, solely bearing taste from the barbeque charring.
Fries were excellent! Thick, skilfully fried chunky strands with a long-lasting crisp. Definitely not oil-logged as well.

Sirloin Steak
Medium-done moist meat with juices intact. She especially loved the three delicious accompanying sauces (brown, mushroom and black pepper) which went well with her steak and fries. For the price, this generous portion was really worth it.

Mississipi Mudcake
Nothing is complete without a sweet ending. Arriving shortly after our meal was a slice of chocolate cake with a scoop of vanilla icecream & whipped cream, drench of hot chocolate fudge and a wedge of strawberry. The tantalising presentation wow-ed; it was so much for a set meal dessert.
Chocolate taste present, but slighty too dry and crumbly. This was nothing extraordinary, but i was satisfied with the accompaniment of my favourite vanilla icecream.

With good food, great service, acceptable ambience and furthermore a value pricetag; this was no doubt a smile-incurring meal (:
