The Prata Place

Here's a branch of the famous Casuarina Prata at Upper Thomson Road- the airconditioned prata place i loved. The differences were rather visible- shop area is only about half the size, shorter menu offered but with a few similar items. And not forgetting the noticeably less brisk business here.

Mushroom Thosai ($2)
i wonder how big it would look like if i spread the whole slab open but i must commend on the chef's skills. This triangular-shaped pancake was sure huge- and it was triple layered.
An entirely flat thin distinct sheet, masterfully spread to a consistent thickness and amazingly fried to a even shade of pretty brown throughout. Furthermore, the traces of oil was so minimal that it was practically negligible.

However, all that brought the dish down was the unexcitingly bland batter and mushroom slices encased in it. In fact, the batter portion was slightly too much that i got sick of it not long after. I still prefer the one at Casuarina.

Chicken Floss Prata ($3)
Undoubtely, this large piece of hot and fragrant prata topped with chicken floss is yet another outstanding showcase of the skilful chef.

Breaking it apart, i was once again impressed by how the dough came fluffy and beatifully layered. Light ultra-thin crispy surfaces with soft airy interiors and a chicken floss filling. Once again, low in oil content but it could be better if both the floss and dough beared more taste.

Maggi Mee Goreng ($3, plus $0.50 for sunny-sideup)
Prior to the first two dishes, this was comparatively much less well-faring. The noodles looked real bland and extra inappetising with that ugly fried egg topped on it. Reckoning it was a different chef who cooked this, i would advise all to go for their specialties instead.

Teh O Ice ($0.80)
Serving was prompt. I liked their pratas here but Casuarina is still my top choice for thosais- there IS a difference.
