The Sweet Stone Parad'Ice

I'm here at Golden Mile Food Centre, not for char kway teow...but one of my favourite sweet foods- WAFFLES!!

After reading a feature on Lifestyle, i knew i had to come down for some delightful "ang moh" desserts. This new stall here stands out with its classy wood done-up, probably the most stunning design ever found in a hawker centre. Two amicable young chaps run the place; a Belgian and a Sinaporean. Both are really friendly and engaging with their customers, creating a good impression in all.

Liege Waffle ($1.80) & Green Tea Gelato ($1.80)

Being premade then left to stand for some time, my first waffle was an utter disappointment for me. The waffle came hard and tough, tasting just like some chewy piece of bread. A layer of sugar coating on the surface was mildly pleasurable though.

Green Tea Gelato

Their home-made gelato was quite a let-down as well; lacklustre with chunks of frozen ice within it- a sign of poor churning efforts. An empowering artificial green tea flavour merely boasted of the Green Tea powder i use for baking.

Go for their Super Lemon instead, it was a whole load better. A smoothly textured white scoop strikes with a sharp natural sourness- indeed a refreshing hit.

Just as i am about to conclude my dissatisfaction, a decision of a takeaway waffle for my sister twisted the verdict. This time, it came hot and fresh from the mould that i irresistably started to help myself with it. boy, it sure did impress! I loved that piping hot batter, wonderfully soft throughout with a smooth sugary caramelised finish. Yummy (:

What further impressed me was their membership loyalty system, where points may be accumlated with every purchase to redeem for more free waffles. Can you believe that all these are coming from a hawker stall?

no way, but i'm afraid its true. i think they truly deserve a "hippest hawker award".
