Tampopo

If you happen to be at Liang Court, here's one notable japanese resturant to check out. Plenty of rave reviews from magazines and newspapers i've heard, all boasting of their exclusive black pork ramen. Dad and i decided to visit this cosy family dining restaurant on a sunday night.

Waiting is cetainly unavoidable for such a well talked-about place. We were given a number card but it only took about 10 minutes for us to get a table for 2. Menu was decently loaded with dishes like tonkatsu, grilled items, dons and ramens of course; but my choice was obvious.

How can i possibly resist one of Lifestyle's Top 10 Ramen, epecially when its first on the list?

Black Pig Shabu Ramen ($13.80)

The picture on the menu illustrated a bowl of fiery red hot soup- and i was doubtful of my tolerance for it. So, i made a safe request of separating the korean chilli flakes.

Now now, how did it fare? The pork bone soup, after boiling for 2 whole days, was of a gorgeously opaque and thick consistency. Fully blasting with natural flavour without any hint of exceeding in sodium level.

I loved the soft noodles, smooth and offered an exclusive firmness when bitten into. The excessively fatty black pig shabu didnt impress; its too thin to be properly tasted. Chiili flakes gave a nice punch of spicyness to flame up the soup, making it a level more exciting.

It was a pity. This would have been a perfect ramen dish if the meat was more remarkable.

Tasty Egg ($1.20)

Ordered this addtionally to go with my ramen. Exuding some shoyu taste, their egg was more to the raw side with half-liquid and half semi-solidified yolk. Passable, but i've tasted more supreme ones.

Pork Bone Kyushu Ramen ($12.80)

Dad's choice consisted of the same quality soup base as mine but with a barbeque pork slice, egg and seaweed instead.

Ika Teriyaki ($12.30)

I was especially disappointed with this after knowing that it was imported from Hokkaido. Expecting it to be soft and chewy, the tough and firm squid was rather dissatisfying for me.

The meal went generally well. I would love to come back and try their other dishes; oh yes and not forgetting the series of homemade japanese desserts!
